There are a number of wonderful organizations that deal with Bernedoodle rescues in Indiana. These dogs have unfortunately found themselves in some poor situations through no fault of their own. They desperately want to have a new family where they are treated well, and you can provide that to them.
Adopting a rescue dog has to be one of the most rewarding things that we as humans can do. The fact that we can offer a dog a new chance at not only being loved but also offering its own love to a family is amazing.
There are a huge number of dogs being put up for adoption and landing in rescue organizations across Indiana on a weekly basis. While we cannot tell you how many will be a Bernedoodle, there are a number of them appearing over the course of the year.
Later, we will tell you all about some of the best rescue organizations in the State, and we recommend contacting them to see if they have a Bernedoodle that is ready to adopt.
Why Adopt a Dog?
So why would you want to adopt a dog, and in this case, we are talking specifically about a Bernedoodle, instead of buying a puppy? Well, we have a number of reasons as to why this could be the best decision you will make.
First, as we said at the outset, there is something wonderful about giving a dog a second chance at life. They will be so happy to be with you, and the love they will give is something you cannot imagine.
Of course, if you adopt an adult dog then you avoid the puppy training part, and that’s a bonus. Also, the rescue organizations will spend time checking over the dog from a health perspective. That means they will give their vaccinations, health checks, and even learn more about their temperament.
This is all designed to make sure you are given the perfect dog. Also, they want to make sure you are perfect for the dog as well.
Why Adopt a Bernedoodle?
So why would you want to go ahead and adopt a Bernedoodle? Well, this is an easy question to answer.
A Bernedoodle is a wonderful dog when it comes to its temperament. They just love anybody that is willing to pay them some attention. Bernedoodles are perfect with people of all sizes and ages, and you have nothing to worry about.
They are also very intelligent, and that means they are great to train. They will enjoy nothing more than trying to make sure their owners are happy with them.
Basically, the Bernedoodle is a bundle of love and joy, so why wouldn’t you want to adopt one?
However, you need to know where to look. Do note that some of these organizations are not going to focus entirely on a Bernedoodle, but rather they are more general in helping dogs.
Heaven After Hell
This is certainly a clever name when it comes to a dog rescue organization. Based in Indianapolis, Heaven After Hell has the intention of uniting rescued dogs with loving new homes.
Their main focus is on rescuing dogs from high-kill shelters, and that keeps them busy with new dogs entering through their doors on a regular basis. Mixed in with this is the occasional Bernedoodle, but you need to be on their waiting list to stand a chance.
They do spend time making sure the dogs have their vaccines while they also spay or neuter them before they are adopted out. You will need to go through their extensive adoption process, but it will be easy to complete.
You will also be required to meet the dog in person before you can adopt. This applies to everyone who will be living in the home, and the same goes for other pets. The organization needs to know that the dog will get on well with every family member before they will agree to the adoption.

It Takes a Village
It Takes a Village is an animal shelter that is based out in Evansville. Since their inception, they have helped to rehome thousands of animals, and they do come across a number of dogs that fall within the Doodle breed during the year.
As they do not focus on Bernedoodles, you need to contact them in advance via their website and tell them of your intention. They will be more than happy to add you to their waiting list for a Bernedoodle, and it allows you to start the adoption process.
They are happy to carry out initial checks into where you live and also your background of caring for pets. This will speed up their process when a Bernedoodle does indeed come through their doors. However, they will still check that you are the best fit for that dog before agreeing to the adoption.

Misty Eyes Animal Rescue
Located in Avon, this team of volunteers help to care for dogs that find themselves in some rather unfortunate situations through no fault of their own. While they do deal with a range of animals, they have a preference for dogs, and you may very well come across a Bernedoodle at some point.
We do recommend contacting them in advance to talk to them. They can then spend time getting to know you, and also what you are looking for. There will be some waiting time when it comes to getting a Bernedoodle as they are not common, but it could all be worth it in the end.
This organization has been doing this since 2011, and they always have to turn away animals as they do not have the space. That means they may even hear of a Bernedoodle waiting to be adopted. If so, they can help match you up with your new dog.
You will need to go through their adoption process, and it runs along common lines. That means they will look into your background and where you live before they will give you your new pet.

Furever We Love
Located in Indianapolis, this rescue organization goes about things in a different way to what you will be familiar with. They focus on helping people coming to the end of their life to find new owners for their pets. This is to stop them from entering into a shelter, and it’s a wonderful approach.
Of course, they have no idea which breeds they will come across at any given time. However, they do recommend that you contact them in advance to let them know what you are looking for in the way of adopting a dog.
They will be extra careful when it comes to who they give the pets to as they have the pet to think of as well as their current owner. Everyone wants to know that the dog in question will be cared for, so expect a lengthy process.
Understanding the Adoption Process
No rescue organization will simply hand over a Bernedoodle to you. Instead, there is an adoption process that you must go through in order to qualify.
How long this process takes does depend on the individual organization. There are a number of factors that will be key to your application being a success.
First, you need to be of age. Some places will require you to be 21 while others are happy at 18. They will want to see proof of you have cared for pets in the past if that’s the case, and it means a referral from a vet.
Also, they will tend to want to see where you live in advance. This lets them know that the dog in question will be cared for in a suitable location. The last thing they want is for the dog to end up back in their care. They want this to be a one-time-only deal.
They will then want you to meet the dog in person before any adoption process is agreed. This also applies to any other individual who will be living with the dog. Some will request you bring your other dog along if you have one.
This all shows the lengths the different organizations will go-to when it comes to making sure the dog has the right home. It’s nothing personal, it’s just the way it works.
At the end of the day, you may want to adopt a certain Bernedoodle, but there’s no guarantee that the organization will feel you are the correct fit. However, persevere as the correct dog will come along at some point. That is why we do recommend you contact as many organizations as possible to make sure you increase your chances of being matched with the perfect dog.
