Best Bernedoodle Rescue in Maryland – Ultimate Guide

Best Bernedoodle Rescue in Maryland – Ultimate Guide

There are a number of rescue organizations across Maryland that dedicate themselves to the rescue of a Bernedoodle and caring for dogs.

These dogs have found themselves in a poor situation through no fault of their own, and they are desperate to love a new family.

Adopting a dog is very rewarding. The way in which the dog will show you so much love as it gets used to its new forever home is one of the best feelings around.

If you have never thought about adopting a dog before, and in particular a Bernedoodle, then we would urge you to think about this as an option. So, allow us to explain why it could very well be the best move you have ever made.

Why You Should Adopt a Dog

Dogs that find themselves in the adoption and rescue process have so much life and love to give. However, they have never been given the opportunity to do this.

Adopting a dog means giving them a new lease on life. It means they will be free again. Also, the way in which the organizations make sure they match the perfect dog with the perfect family, they will have a happy life.

But most dogs that are available for adoption are also older dogs. That means you do not have to go through the puppy training aspect, and if you have never done this before, then that may be a good thing.

There’s also the fact that the rescue organizations will have checked the dogs for any health issues before adoption. They vaccinate them and even give them some training if required.

Basically, you will be able to bring home a dog that is well behaved, healthy, and ready to love you.

Why Adopt a Bernedoodle?

So why a Bernedoodle? Well, there are a number of reasons as to why they are a good dog to adopt from a rescue organization.

The main thing has to be their temperament. They are so laid-back and just want to both be loved, and to love a family. Trust us when we say they have a whole lot of love to give.

They are great around children, and they tend to do well with other pets. They are also intelligent, and great fun to train while they love to play.

Basically, a Bernedoodle is going to be an absolute bundle of fun and joy. The fact they will be so open to loving you, and getting hugs, is just another added bonus.

So those are several very good reasons as to why you should adopt a Bernedoodle, but onto those rescue organizations that could make this a reality.

Mid-Atlantic Poodle Rescue

The Mid-Atlantic Poodle Rescue deals with all breeds of dogs from Poodles to all of the different Doodle breeds, so a Bernedoodle is also included. The fact they do focus on these breeds does mean you have increased your chances of a successful adoption.

However, be aware that this is a popular rescue organization. They may be based in Maryland, but they do also cover other states, but that may increase your chances of finding that perfect Bernedoodle.

Be aware that they do not have a facility. Each dog is placed with a foster family while they are all checked out by a vet and cared for accordingly.

There is a waiting list, and you need to apply to be added. You will need to stress your desire to adopt a Bernedoodle over any other Doodle breed, and they will do their best to help.

In the meantime, you can go through their application process, and they will start to check out your background. The idea here is to make sure you are the perfect fit for the dog, as that is the most important thing of all.

Last Chance Animal Rescue

Last Chance Animal Rescue is based in Waldorf, and they work in conjunction with a number of different shelters spread across different States. While they deal with dogs in general, it is always worth telling them in advance you would like to adopt a Bernedoodle.

Started back in 1999, they have helped well over 10,000 dogs in that time. They will go through a number of checks and make sure you are the perfect fit for the dog in question.

There may be some waiting time involved for you, but it will all be worth it in the end. Each dog that comes into their rescue organization will be checked by a vet ahead of adoption. That does mean you know your new Bernedoodle is healthy and ready to be loved by your family.

You will be required to have your place checked in advance, and a note by a vet for any previous pets is also essential. Each family member will be requested to meet the dog in person before adoption. This will make sure the bond exists between the dog and your family.

MAS Rescue

Maryland Animal Sanctuary and Rescue is located in Baltimore, and they do help both dogs and cats. However, from a dogs perspective, they have helped over 5000 dogs since their inception.

They will take any breed of dog into their care, so you need to advise them that you are looking for a Bernedoodle. They will then add you to a waiting list, and you will be told when a Bernedoodle does indeed enter their organization.

Each dog that comes through their door is checked from a health perspective along with making sure they have their vaccines. You then know your new dog is healthy and they will help with the settling-in process as well.

As is normal, you need to go through the application process and it is extensive. They want each dog to leave their facility and never come back. Getting the correct fit is important, so you may not even be linked with the first Bernedoodle. Instead, they match the perfect dog to the perfect family.

Contact them directly to start the application process even if there is not a dog ready for you. It will speed up the process for when a Bernedoodle is rescued by the organization.

The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter

Created in 2005, this organization does deal with a range of animals and not just dogs. They are viewed as being the main rescue organization in the Baltimore area.

They actually take in a number of animals on a daily basis, and even though they do not focus on a Bernedoodle, they do have several over a year. Each dog is cared for, given their vaccines and checked by a vet.

However, checks are not limited to the dogs. They also spend a considerable length of time checking out you as a potential owner. You must be capable of providing a safe home, and they will look at your home before the adoption.

As they do deal with so many animals, and also have so many applications for adopting an animal, it is best to start the process now. They may not have a Bernedoodle available for you at this point, but one will come along if you are willing to wait.

The Adoption Process

So, how do you go through the actual adoption process? Well, each organization may have slightly different rules, but they do generally have the same basic principles.

First, you need to be of age. Some organizations say 18 while others say 21. Double check first before applying.

Also, you either need to own your home, or have written permission by a landlord stating you can have a pet. That is not something that they can work around with you.

They will often require a reference from a vet if you currently own a pet, or have done so in the recent past. This helps them to see you have been taking good care of current pets. After all, they want the best for their dogs, so this makes a difference.

Finally, they will come to your home to meet you face to face. They will check your home is safe and suitable for your Bernedoodle, and then there’s the meeting of the dog. They will need to meet every single individual who will be living there. Also, if you have another dog or a cat, then the rescue dog will need to meet them as well.

This is all designed to make sure your rescue dog is going to the perfect home. The adoption process may be lengthy, but it will be worth it in the end when you are able to bring your new dog home. Remember, just because you think a certain Bernedoodle is perfect does not mean the rescue organization thinks the same. So, prepare for some potential disappointment before you manage to get the perfect dog for your needs.

Sharing is caring!

DO NOT adopt or foster from mid Atlantic poodle rescue. I fostered a dog for 6 months. Cindy, the owner, did not communicate with me for 2 months, until I got a text on a weekend where he was boarded saying that he is not coming back to my house and no longer in my care. I was not even allowed to take him on a walk when I dropped off his things at the boarding facility. Cindy only gave excuses and did not provide any apologizes. I had provided the dog his first stable home, lots of play time and love. I had given him considerable training as he had issues with resource guarding and aggression. Now, he is just staying at the boarding instead of a loving home due to Cindy being spiteful, and non-communicative.
