Best Bernedoodle Rescue in Chicago – Ultimate Guide

So you live in Chicago, and you would like to adopt a Bernedoodle rescue dog, and that’s great news. It makes so much sense when rescue organizations across the city have so many wonderful dogs just ready for a new home.

While every single breed tends to appear in these organizations from time to time, we understand why you want to adopt a Bernedoodle in particular.

However, be aware that there is an application process to go through when you want to adopt a dog, and it does take some time to complete.

A rescue dog can be a wonderful companion. All they are asking for is another shot at life and to live in a better situation than the one they came from. With so many available, it can be a very rewarding thing to do.

Why Adopt a Dog?

So why would you want to adopt a dog? Well, these dogs tend to find themselves in these difficult situations through no fault of their own.

They have been rescued from poor situations, or they have been abandoned. This can lead to them landing up in kill shelters, and they need to be saved.

They have so much life and love to give. All they want is to have a family and a forever home. They are waiting for you to give them all of that. They will give you love and companionship in return.

Adopting a dog can be so rewarding. The joy they can give you and your family is something that cannot even be explained.

Also, if you adopt an adult dog, then you do not have to worry about trying to train it since it has already gone past the puppy stage.

In addition, the organizations will always look at checking over the dogs that enter their facilities and make sure they are healthy.

This is important as it does give you peace of mind about the dog you are adopting, and you know they are healthy and ready to love you.

Why Adopt a Bernedoodle?

So why would you want to adopt a Bernedoodle? This is an easy one to answer, and it’s all to do with how wonderful a breed of dog they are.

This breed has such an amazing temperament. They are filled with so much fun and joy that they will always bring a smile to your face.

Add in that they are wonderful even around children, and it means they are the perfect family dog.

They are easy to train, love to learn new commands, and generally, they will be the ideal dog for so many individuals.

But the only way you will be able to adopt a Bernedoodle is if you know where to find one, and that is where we are about to help.

One Tail at a Time

Based in Chicago, One Tail at a Time is a dog rescue that deals with any breed that needs to be rescued. However, they can have a Bernedoodle available for adoption at any point throughout the year.

They were established back in 2007, and since then they have helped countless dogs find their new home. They have grown to such an extent that they now have their own facility which was opened in 2015.

As they do not always have a Bernedoodle available for adoption, it is advised that you do contact them and tell them of your desire to own this breed.

They will only be too happy to take your details, and will then contact you should a Bernedoodle come through their doors.

Be aware that there may very well be a bit of a wait. They have no idea which dogs will need to be rescued next.

You should also seek to go through the various checks that are in place before you are allowed to adopt a dog.

That will mean they can match you up with the perfect Bernedoodle when one comes along.

PAWS Chicago

Next, we have PAWS Chicago, and this shelter has been around since 1998. Once again, they help any dog that is in need.

But that covers all of the different Doodle breeds, and they do encounter several of these dogs over the course of a year.

This organization is a big deal. They have reduced the number of dogs being killed by over 90%, and they always have a number of dogs available for adoption.

Each dog in their care is checked by a vet, and they are going to be healthy and vaccinated before they are put up for adoption.

They are also strict at who they will give a dog to, so expect to be fully checked out before you are allowed to take a dog home.

There is a fee involved, but that’s to cover their costs when it comes to getting them checked out and cared for.

Felines & Canines Chicago

As the name suggests, this organization helps both cats and dogs. They have been in existence for over 40 years. With that experience, you can only imagine how many dogs they have helped over the years.

This is another organization where you need to tell them in advance that you wish to adopt a Bernedoodle. They will then do their best to match you up with the perfect dog when one comes into their establishment.

They like to keep things as simple as possible. Felines $ Canines Chicago rescues a dog, and they match it up with the perfect family.

It will involve you going through the application process, and that means checking out your background and where you live.

They will do this thoroughly, so do not expect it to be a fast process as that is not the case.

For this organization, you need to be over 18 and also have proof of ID. They take this very strictly, but it will be worth it in the end when you are matched up with the perfect dog.

Chicago Canine Rescue

Founded in 2001, Chicago Canine Rescue has since helped over 7000 dogs to be adopted into their new forever home. They do deal with any breed that requires some help, but you will find the occasional Bernedoodle coming into their organization throughout the year.

Also, if you advise them in advance you are searching for a Bernedoodle, then they will try their best to look out for one that has entered into the rescue organizations.

You can still go through the initial application process even when there is not a suitable dog for you. This involves the usual checks, and then when a Bernedoodle does come through their door, all that will be left is to meet the dog in person.

This organization will check the health of the dogs followed by making sure they have had all of their vaccines in advance of the adoption process being completed.

That is a weight off your shoulders, but they will only allow you to adopt when they feel you are the best fit for the dog in question.

The Adoption Process

The adoption process can be a bit daunting, but that needn’t be the case. Instead, it is a common process. Whereby the rescue organizations can learn more about you before you take ownership of the dog.

Their aim is to always provide the best home for their dogs. They do not want to see them returning just because the fit was not perfect.

The age at which you can adopt a dog will vary from organization to organization. Some will allow people over 18, while others prefer over 21.

If you are a homeowner, then there’s less of a problem. If you rent, then you need written permission from your landlord that you can have a dog before they will adopt.

Even after your home has been checked, you are still not guaranteed to get the dog that you would like. You need to meet the dog, and this applies to everyone in your home.

Also, they will be required to know about previous pets you have owned. A vet reference may be required before they will give you one of their dogs.

Costs will also vary between organizations. However, keep in mind that each dog has been checked by a vet. They have had their vaccines, so it’s not all too bad as these are all non-profit organizations.

At the end of the day, you can easily adopt a wonderful Bernedoodle. You will need to be patient as they are not always available. We do advise contacting as many organizations as possible and letting them know of your preference.

They can then help to link you up with the perfect dog. You must be patient. It will all be worth it in the end when you take your new dog home.
