  • Dogs and other pets are not permitted on the historical wooden locations of the boardwalk.
  • Dogs are not permitted in the Boardwalk Business District. This includes walkways, sidewalks, and public property east of Canal Dr. from the north side of Harper Ave. (Hampton Inn location) up to Cape Fear Blvd.

Municipal Beach Strand Regulations

  • Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times
  • From April 1st to September 30th, dogs are permitted on the beach during restricted hours (before 9:00 am and 5:00 pm). Pets are not allowed between 9 am to 5 pm. 
  • From October 1st to March 31st, pets are not permitted on the beach during all hours.
  • If you are visiting with your furry friend, you must have at all times a plastic or paper container that you can use to contain and clean up dog waste until you can dispose of it in an appropriate container. The container must be shown upon request from anyone authorized to enforce the ordinance.

Freeman Park Regulations

  • All dogs must be on a short leash from April 1st to September 30th.
  • From October 1st up to March 31st, dogs are permitted off a leash as long as they remain under voice command. The owner should also be a reasonable distance from the dog.
